Most self propelled sprayers, trailed sprayers and small utility vehicles run on 12V DC electrical systems. A flow meter that needs 220V AC or 24V DC adds a converter and more wiring. Without a flow meter, the controller only guesses from pressure and nozzle size.

In practice, a flow meter also helps with section control. If one boom section shuts off, the flow meter detects the lower flow and the controller adjusts the valve position. This keeps the application rate stable.

Installation Points for 12V Flow Meters

Mount the flow meter in a straight run of pipe with at least 10 pipe diameters upstream and 5 downstream. That is a common rule for electromagnetic flow meters. But on a small sprayer, space is tight. We can reduce the straight run if the meter calibration is done on the actual installation. The EMAG-LV12 has a compact body that fits close to the spray control valve.

Do not install the flow meter at the highest point of the spray line. Air bubbles collect there and cause unstable readings. Put the meter after the pump and before the valve. Keep the signal cable away from the ignition coil and electric motor wires. Use shielded cable for the pulse output.
